Brad’s Bit O’ Verse By CLEM BRADSHAW ♦ NEW YEAR So it’s you, New Year? Well, you’re ’bout on time, And you’re all dolled up and a-lookin’ prime; And believe me, boy, you are welcome, too; There’s a heap left over for you to do. Better be sheddin’ them cute gauze wings And roll up your sleeves and tackle things; For the world ain’t feelin’ a bit too good— With some o’ the kids in a fightin’ mood. Nothin’ to say 'gainst your old man; When a feller does just the best he can, I claim his record is toler’bly sound, Though it looked like stallin’ and putterin’ 'round. Not blamin’ the old Year—not at all; Wasn’t his doin’s that things must stall; But seemed like the fellers kept hangin’ back And keepin’ the world from the forward track. But the Old has gone and we’ve got the Nsw, And there’s work piled up; and we’re lookin’ to you To spare some time from your play and fun And finish some jobs that were left undone. Oh, keep good faith with the world. New Year; Bring peace and hope and good will and cheer; You’re a husky lad, and you look right stout, And it’s well you are; for your work’s cut out. Bring calm to the clamor and stress and strife, And help us win toward the best in life And to conquer Hate and to boost for Joy. It’s a whale of a job; so get busy, boy!
